What is Wellness?
The definition of wellness according to the National Wellness Institute is: “Wellness is an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more successful existence.”
Three core tenants of wellness include:
- Wellness is a conscious, self-directed, and evolving process of achieving full potential
- Wellness is multidimensional and holistic, encompassing lifestyle, mental and spiritual well-being, and the environment
- Wellness is positive and affirming
At Eaton, we are incredibly passionate about wellness and celebrate the following eight dimensions of wellness:
- PHYSICAL WELLNESS: Taking care of your body to maintain and improve strength, flexibility, and function.
- NUTRITIONAL WELLNESS: Making positive choices to nourish your body so it can be as healthy as possible, while you enjoy social, intellectual, and emotional experiences.
- EMOTIONAL WELLNESS: Facing life with a positive attitude and enthusiasm, even in difficult times, because of how you see yourself, your goals, and your role in life and in the lives of others.
- SPIRITUAL WELLNESS: Enjoying a continued sense of well-being, providing meaning and purpose that enrich your life and nourish your soul. Creating a mind and body connection through your personal value system and other resources.
- SOCIAL WELLNESS: Connecting and interacting with your environment and community through family and friends.
- INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS: Exercising and strengthening your brain and stretching your creative and mental abilities through life-long learning.
- COMMUNITY WELLNESS: Reaching out to help others by providing support and sharing your experiences, talents, and abilities.
- ENVIRONMENTAL WELLNESS: Protecting and improving their personal environment, and the environment at large, for health and safety benefits for themselves and the generations that follow.
